Midweek Rewind - The Ties That Bind
Welcome to your midweek second serving of leadership! A quick recap of Sunday’s lessons and how we put them into practice!!!

NO me ha dejaDO (she has not left me)
In case you missed it Sunday (here’s the link): https://thetribehasspoken.beehiiv.com/p/serve-lead-49a2
Where: Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain
What: Commitment & Respect
How: NO8DO - The universal symbol of Sevillian solidarity.
Why: These two variables solidify relationships and culture in a family, team, and/or organization.
1) Give respect to get it.
2) Acts of service.
3) Autonomy = Trust.
So, how did you do? Let’s find out! Specific adaptation to impose demand here. Using a simple linear scale of -5 to 0 and 0 to +5 start at 0. For each question add or subtract a point. Anything less than +3 and you need some work on your commitment and respect to those you lead!

R.E.S.P.E.C.T
1) Did you demonstrate respect to someone without needing a catalyst or in response? (For example, go find a colleague that is always positive and tell them how much you appreciate them. The administrator that always listens to you when it seems no one else does, go tell them thank you for their sincerity) If yes +1, if no - 1
2) In conversation with a family member, team member, co-worker, or supervisor did you lose your temper and deviate from the matter at hand? If yes +1, if no - 1
3) In your busy schedule did you make time to greet every person you came into contact with at work with more than a head nod? If yes +1, if no - 1
Pro Tips:
We all get busy and frustrated. Take a “battle breath,” (breathe through your nose 3-4 seconds and hold it in your belly flexing your diaphragm, close your eyes, then breathe it out slow. Repeat until your heart rate and breathing are under control) then go have the difficult conversation beginning with a calm tone and a sincere question.
No one is too busy to smile and sincerely ask someone how they are doing.
Pay attention to people around you, we ALL wear our troubles on the outside. Show kindness to someone that visibly needs it.
Acts of Service
4) Did you spontaneously do something kind for someone at home or work? If yes +1, if no - 1
5) Did you listen to someone having a bad day and rather than sharing your struggle, express care and demonstrate kindness? If yes +1, if no - 1
6) Did you offer to take something off of someone else’s plate in order to lessen their workload? If yes +1, if no - 1
Pro Tips:
Wash your wife’s clothes, go fill up her car with gas, or take the kids on a walk so she can nap.
Come home from work dog tired and cook supper for your family. Get your belly and heart full.
Coaches, do you have a player that’s just a little off? Summer for a lot of kids is difficult. Food might be hard to come by when not at school or they might have to bounce back and forth between blended families. Make time to talk to them one on one and let them know you care about them.
TRUST
7) Did you delegate an important task to someone you lead? If yes +1, if no - 1
8) Have you surveyed or analyzed other leaders to find out new strategies for your weak areas? If yes +1, if no - 1
9) Have you made time to find out what things those around you are struggling with? If yes +1, if no - 1
10) Have you encouraged someone you lead everyday? If yes +1, if no - 1
Pro Tips:
Coaches try asking your admin if there’s something you can do for them professionally or personally.
Whether at home or at work, demonstrating trust and giving people autonomy is empowering! Delegate tasks and give them space. If they fail, they’ll learn and you’ll be there to encourage them.
Coaches, ask someone on your staff to secretly track you one day during practice. Ask them to chart how many encouraging things you say/do, as well as any negative words or actions. Find out what your Character scoreboard result looks like! (Ps I’ll be creating one of those to share with you all soon).
Have a look at your score and each item. Where do you need to be better in regards to commitment and respect? Have a go at it RIGHT NOW. If USA Women’s Rugby can break one for 85 meters with zero time on the clock then you can go be an intentional leader before bedtime. Then get up tomorrow and go score some points!
